Getting to know cyber_Folks

cyber_Folks is a hosting provider serving Poland, Romania, and Croatia, offering a range of services including, web hosting, mailbox, domain registration, website building tools and e-commerce services. Today, they are the go-to-choice for most new websites across these markets!

The name cyber_Folks translates to “technology and people are equal” – a living and breathing mantra for the Polish-based provider, that filters into every aspect of the business, from customer service to enhanced email security.

Trust and Security are EVERYTHING.

Cybersecurity has always been a top priority for cyber_Folks. They are committed to providing customers with the most secure experience possible.

cyber_Folks protect users against hundreds to thousands of attempted attacks daily, including spam, password cracking, DDOS attacks and more. However, over the years, phishing has emerged as the primary threat. Every day, more customers rely on cyber_Folks to provide robust security and defenses against phishing and other malicious email attempts.

To protect its network and customers, the cyber_Folks team has implemented a number of proactive measures:

  • Enforcing SPF and DMARC across customer accounts,
  • Analyzing traffic to understand user behavior and respond to incidents,
  • Maintaining their own real-time blocklists (RBL) using a combination of spam traps, client-provided email data, and log analysis, alongside those of trusted providers like Spamhaus.
  • Developing in-house tools, including AI to detect client-specific threats.

Łucasz Piecuch, cyber_Folks CTO highlights, “The real challenge is differentiating the ‘spam from the ham.’ We want to deliver the emails customers expect while blocking unwanted ones.”

This is where Spamhaus comes in.

Industry-leading email protection from Spamhaus

cyber_Folks uses multiple RBLs at different stages of the filtering process, creating layered and enhanced protection. Spamhaus’ real-time DNS blocklists (DNSBLs) – accessed via our industry-leading Data Query Service (DQS) is responsible for approximately 70% of all malicious emails blocked by RBLs.

As a result, DQS has enabled cyber_Folks to drop a significant amount of bad email traffic before reaching processing or analysis, saving costs on server power.

Artur Pajkert, CMO at cyber_Folks explains, “With Spamhaus, we are able to filter spam more effectively than ever before – in fact we have tripled our email filtering capabilities!”

Additional benefits to the business include:

  • Reduced resource requirements: cyber_Folks estimates saving 120 hours per month that would have otherwise been required to identify and mitigate email-borne threats, and achieve the same results.
  • Improved customer satisfaction: Since introducing DQS, cyber_Folks has seen a considerable reduction in spam-related customer support tickets, dropping by approximately 20%.

Artur adds, “Using Spamhaus means our clients can spend more time on what really matters instead of worrying about phishing attacks or junk email clogging their inbox. Our customers are happier. We are happier. And the whole system gets stronger.”

And this is just the beginning.

A data sharing first!

During the testing period, cyber_Folks set up data sharing with Spamhaus, enhancing the performance of their Spamhaus Data Query Service.

Impressively, the data set up was completed within two days of receiving the documentation –  a record speed for data sharing with Spamhaus! As Łucasz noted, “It made sense to experience the benefit upfront by sharing data both ways. cyber_Folks directly benefits from the data shared, adding an extra layer of protection to our network, while also contributing to global security.”

Targeted protection for cyber_Folks customers

By sharing basic email connection data, (without sharing any personally identifiable information) Spamhaus can identify spammers and threats in cyber_Folks’ customer’s inbound email traffic. Where malicious or suspicious activity is detected, the IP addresses and domains are added to Spamhaus data sets feeding back directly into cyber_Folks to block harmful incoming emails.

Additionally, cyber_Folks’ traffic is unique to their customers, geography, and industry, meaning they could detect malicious traffic before others. Sharing this data with Spamhaus, not only strengthens the data performance for cyber_Folks but for all users.

Today, Spamhaus processes over 100 million SMTP records per month on behalf of cyber_Folks. What does that mean?

Each day, an average of more than 500 listings are flagged as low reputation or associated with spamming, and a further 940 listings are considered malicious, suspicious, or from compromised bot-controlled machines. While averages are an indication of persistent threats, Enhanced Protection also protects against targeted attacks, which generated peaks of more than 4,000 listings.

Artur summarized the importance of this integration to cyber_Folks, “Using Spamhaus’ data is part of our ongoing mission to provide a safer and more productive email experience. With Spamhaus by our side, we’re confident we’re delivering one of the most secure email solutions available today.”
